in the single origin chocolate arena is Chocolate Naive from Lithuania. This bean to bar producer now sells its wares across the world, including the UK. Most of the bars are flavoured, which is normally not our thing here at the Chocolate Revolution. But this chocolatier makes use of a very rare bean - pure Peruvian Nacional as opposed to the more common Ecuadorian Nacional. The Peruvian variant was discovered by chance in 2011
. See below for a review of this bar and another single-origin product from this new chocolatier.
In the UK CHOCOLATE NAIVE is available in a number of stores in the London area.
Details of further stores in Europe and the US can be found on the website: chocolatenaive.com
THE CHOCOLATE BARS
key: (C)riollo (T)rinitario (F)orastero
PERU NACIONAL 78% (F) Peru, South America
This bar offers a good balance of sweetness and bitterness, with predominantly nutty flavour notes. The texture is a little grainy.
TRINIDAD & TOBAGO 70% (T) Trinidad & Tobago, South America
This bar shows more complexity, with hints of plum, nut, and tobacco. The balance of sweetness and bitterness is similarly good, but it too suffers from a slightly grainy texture.
